Petworth Park CC v Leconfield Estates XI:

Match Report by Sean Guy.

On what seemed like the 17th November and not the 17th June, far from last week when the spectators were sun bathing, they were in winter coats and blankets (thank you to all of them for the support).

Same start to the game as normal, Adam came up with a game plan that we would field first get them out cheaply and knock the runs off quickly, sounded perfect until one slight issue, Adam failed to win the Toss. So we were put into bat on another great looking wicket (top marks to Alex and all the others that have helped).

Adam and Ollie opened the batting and both looked comfy but unfortunately wickets starting falling quite steadily and the run rate wasn’t overly high, but there was some lovely shots being played by all and some big hitting again from Adam. When I went into bat Adams original target of 120 looked like a bit of a challenge as we still needed about 40 runs of 6 overs. I did start to think I people didn’t want to bat with me as Chris B, Chris T and Alex all departed very quickly, I was joined at the wicket with Jamie I only managed 5 scoring shots but all went for 4’s before I got myself run out with about 8 balls to go, this left Jamie and Jezz to see the innings out and got us to 125 for 9.

Quick turnaround and we were out on the field feeling and looking good (also very cold) some very nice tight bowling from Adam and Alex the opposition were on the back foot very quickly and the run rate was increasing rapidly. First bowling change saw Mahmoud and Ollie enter the attack and again some tight bowling and even tighter fielding kept the pressure on them. The final 4 overs were bowled by myself and Jamie. Jamie took 3 wickets 1 of which was by an outstanding catch by Mahmoud, also taking catches was Nigel and I took 2. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the last wicket but the opposition finished the 20 overs on 102 for 9.

Highlight: Mahmoud’s catch
Low point: cold damp weather
Comedy moment: Mahmoud reaction to being bowled (sorry Mahmoud)

All in all great game with a brilliant result, here’s to the next game
